How do I become IICRC certified?

How to Earn an IICRC Certification

Earning an IICRC certification is a straightforward process! If your wondering “How do I become IICRC certified?,” you’ve come to the right place!

To become IICRC certified, you need to take an IICRC-approved certification class and pass the corresponding exam. The exam has you demonstrate your knowledge gained from the class. After you pass the exam, the IICRC will send you a certificate, patch and wallet card. Many IICRC classes don’t require any prior experience such as the WRT (Water Restoration Technician). Some classes build upon knowledge gained in other IICRC classes and require those classes as a prerequisite. For example, the AMRT (Applied Microbial Remediation Technician) class requires students to take and pass the WRT course first.

The IICRC ASD (Applied Structural Drying) class also requires WRT as a prerequisite, however we offer a combined WRT/ASD course so you can earn both certifications in one class!

How long is an IICRC certification good for?

IICRC-certified technicians must renew and pay a renewal fee each year, and earn 14 Continuing Education Credits every 4 years to keep their certifications active.

Depending on your certifications with the IICRC, you may need to earn more than 14 CEC’s every four years. The IICRC will send you a renewal notice each year with your requirements to maintain your certifications.

What is an IICRC master designation?

An IICRC Master designation is the “highest education designation in the restoration industry,” and comes with several benefits including listing in the IICRC global locator, joining an exclusive group, and demonstrating you have obtained education and experience in the industry.

There are three Master designations available, Master Water Restorer, Master Restorer and Master Textile Cleaner.  To earn a Master designation, you must have 3 consecutive years in the restoration industry as well as completion of specific certification courses.
